Brown Bear Birthday Set

My nephew recently turned one and the part theme was based on the Brown Bear, Brown Bear Book by Eric Carle. I quickly began my search for the Eric Carle fabric series. I knew it was out there. Lucky me, I found a variety of Brown Bear prints to choose from between Etsy and Joannes.

I began with the overalls an old pattern that my mother had acquired. Paired with a toddler top from

Brown Bear Overalls

My go to pattern for 1 year olds on their way to toddling is this overall set. It’s a pattern my mom acquired and used when my kids were young. I prefer to add snaps instead of buttons for the closure and I have adjusted the pattern to be sewn through the legs instead of snaps. I have paired it with a 18mo top from target. I love the little brown pocket. I am hoping a few rocks get collected in that pocket.

Soft Sided Blocks

When I saw this large print Brown Bear fabric, I knew I had to create blocks. I used this pin as a guide and I love how these blocks came out.

Reusable Gift Bag

In my excitement to acquire all the Brown Bear fabric that I could find I actually found two different brown bear prints and ordered both. The left me with enough fabric to create a reusable gift bag. I happen to know from my sister that this bag is used to tote toys on their outings. I didn’t use a pattern for this, but did use the size of the block as a guide.

Baby Quilt

After all of the above projects, I still had a lot of material left over. So why not a quilt! I love the way I could cut out each individual character from the book from the large print. One of the Brown Bear prints included the rhyme from the book. And if you look close, there’s a little bit of the Hungry Caterpillar in there too.
